Community Involvement

A guiding principle for Calvert has always been that investment returns and responsible corporate behavior are inextricably linked. In our investment process, Calvert seeks successful companies that are good corporate citizens today and well positioned to remain responsible corporate leaders tomorrow.

Leading by example
We, too, meet the exacting standards we've set for the companies in which we invest. Calvert continually seeks to maintain, enhance, and expand our diversity, community outreach, work/life programs and balance, employee development, and volunteer programs and initiatives.

We care for our communities. Through Calvert Community Partners, our community outreach program, our employees may take up to 12 days of paid leave each year to participate in community service activities. These include tutoring, organizing charity fundraising events, and sponsoring and participating in the Greater DC Cares Servathons. Calvert also provides strong financial support for the Make-A-Wish Foundation and other community-based charities.

We care for our employees.  Our communities begin with our employees. Calvert offers our employees a benefit-rich, family-friendly work environment, with many innovative opportunities. Calvert has been included on Working Mother magazine's list of "100 Best Companies for Working Mothers", Washingtonian Magazine's list of "Great Places to Work", and currently holds the "Great Place to Work" Seal of Approval from the Alliance for Workplace Excellence. Companies are selected based on criteria such as pay scale, opportunities for advancement, support for childcare, and the availability of family-friendly benefits.

We care for the environment. Long before corporate recycling programs became popular, Calvert instituted a company-wide recycling and waste reduction program, which has, since its inception, logged impressive resource savings. (For example, we've recycled material equal to more than 8,500 trees, avoiding more than 35,000 pounds of air pollution and saving more than 3.5 millions of gallons of water.) In addition, we use only recycled paper and soy-based inks in our own printed materials, and we actively encourage our investors to take advantage of e-delivery of statements, regulatory information, and newsletters to further conserve resources.
